"People want to listen to a message, word from Jah. This could be passed through me or anybody. I am not a leader. Messenger. The words of the songs, not the person, is what attracts people."
-Bob Marley
with music comes no pain.
Without a war, there be no music,
But with music there be nobody in vain.
No matter the place you live,
no matter the color of your skin,
there be a music that help ev'rybody,
even if it be the anti-plague Jes Grew or just simply a grin.
I grew up in a good part of town,
others may not have been so lucky,
But once we hear the message of the words
we unite as one.
"Once the band starts, everybody starts swaying from one side of the street to the other, especially those who drop in and follow the ones who have been to the funeral. These people are known as "the second line" and they may be anyone passing along the street who wants to hear the music. The spirit hits them and they follow"
-Louis Armstrong (quote from Mumbo Jumbo)

The image of Bob Marley at a Peace Concert that is in that particular post itself can easily relate to the background image of a city that clearly has a stage set up and is crowded with people. The images even match each other; they are both black and white. In fact, everything is black and white except the background color and a few words that are in red rather than black. This makes words stand out that the writer desires of an audience to see in an obvious way. The fact that the writer wants us to focus on unity goes well with the particular image he or she chose because Bob Marley and the two men in the image with him have joined hands.
ReplyDeleteOverall, the image of background and post and text are cohesive and make sense together, however this may be too easy to figure out. I would keep the background image and then maybe change the post’s image to reflect a time where Bob Marley was not united or a time he was struggling for it. This will create more of a contrast and will also contribute to the poems contradicting lines that is incorporated in this post “With war comes violence, with music comes no pain. Without a war, there be no music…” Here, the writer of the poem is thinking through his thoughts to come up with a conclusion that there will always be war and always is music and neither can be without the other. Technically, this is unison but unison of music and war whereas war itself is the opposite of unison.
I would also tile the background image; this would give more of a sense of being in the actual place. The image would further be incorporated in the scene and could present the contradiction of the concert as a whole being united, but individually in individuals self, maybe they are torn in some way. This would create conflict and more wondering and critical thinking.
As for the font, I like the placement of everything; the quotes beginning and ending the post and their slight highlight, but I would make the title of the blog larger so it stands out more and italicize the poem. This gives it more voice and a reader can imagine the person thinking these thoughts. The quotes and the poems definitely give this post something extra through use of a multitude of texts.
